Which Richard Ruane are you?For my professional musician biography, click here. There are a number of Richard Ruanes you might encounter on the web. Surprisingly, we are not all the same person. There are several published authors. I have written a few articles for newspapers and a magazine, but I have never written a comic book, or a book on role playing games, or any academic work. I am a musician and I spent some time in Ireland (my solo CD even has a song called Dublin), but I am not a Celtic traditional musician living in Ireland. I have also hitchhiked around Scotland, but I am not a member of the Inverness Rowing Club. I lived in England but I never got caught up in a controversy with the U.K. branch of Kodak. Finally, I have never worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, raced a Lotus racer, or run for elective office in Massachusetts or any other state. I am the Richard Ruane who was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York (attending Spackenkill and Arlington schools). I went to a few colleges; Dutchess Community College, SUNY at New Paltz, SUNY at Potsdam (where I graduated), as well as the West London Institute in London, England (which was made up of Maria Grey and Borough Road colleges). My three brothers are Tom Ruane (an IBM employee who also is the web guru/database manager for the Retrosheet baseball web site), Jim Ruane (now deceased) and John Ruane (who works for Portland Gas and Electric out in Oregon). I am married to Andrea Chesman, the famous cookbook author, and we have two boys, Rory Ruane and Sam Chesman. I had some odd jobs, one at Candy Lane (a candy cane and lollipop manufacturer), as well as Mica Formica ("Tops in Tops!") and the School of Natural Resources at the University of Vermont. I did freelance work for book publishers, including creating book indexes (or indices if you prefer). I have worked for Computer Alternatives, the Top Floor and the Lincoln Community School. Hopefully that's enough to answer the nagging question of "Is that the same Richard Ruane who . . ." Yes, Mr. President, that's me. Here I am at 11, my one and only year with playing football with the Eagles, part of the Town of Poughkeepsie Lions Pop Warner Football League. We were the champs that year. I am number 57, middle row, third from the right. My brother Tom is number 72 in the back row. The league rule was every player got to play a minimum of five minutes a game, which was also the maximum I ever played.
